CMIT ‘Equipped to Participate’ Statements (UK)

The following ‘Equipped to Participate’ statements outline the knowledge, skill and competence a learner requires to participate in CMIT programmes leading to awards on the UK national framework at Levels 4, 5 and 7.

What are the specific entry requirements for successful participation?

• Specific entry requirements for each course are listed on the individual course pages. For some courses, specific qualifications are required. For others life or work experience is sufficient.
• Some courses may require learners to be working in, or have access to, a relevant organisation in order to be able to complete assessment work.

At Level 7, what is the required fluency in generic skills such as literacy/ numeracy /interpersonal skills to successfully complete a course?

• Learners should already hold a qualification at Level 6. This qualification can be in any field of study. Where a Learner does not hold a level 6 qualification, they must have 5 years’ experience in a Senior Management role.
• Learners are required to be proficient in the following: (1) Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and (2) advanced internet skills.
• Learners must be fluent in English with excellent written English skills and have successfully completed a qualification at the preceding level in English.

At Level 5, what is the required fluency in generic skills such as literacy/ numeracy /interpersonal skills to successfully complete a course?

• Learners entering programmes leading to awards at Level 5 have usually completed a programme of study at the preceding level.
• They can usually fluently read, draft, prepare and understand complex information, including quantitative information that is personally relevant and reflects a broad knowledge base.
• Learners will be required to read, interpret and apply course concepts and theories in a practical manner and reflect on a number of areas including their own application of course concepts, current practices or areas for further development.

At Level 4, what is the required fluency in generic skills such as literacy/ numeracy /interpersonal skills to successfully complete a course?

• Learners entering programmes leading to awards at Level 4 will usually be proficient at reading, drafting, preparing and understanding information across a broad range of topics, including quantitative information.

What amount of learning effort is required to successfully complete a course?

• Approximately 10 hours of learning is required per credit associated with a programme of learning.
• For example an ILM level 5 certificate requires a minimum of 14 credits to be achieved. The learning effort required will be approx. 140 hours.
• This is based on an estimation of the average time it takes a learner to achieve outcomes. This learning effort includes time for reading, study, project work, skills demonstrations, work related project work, written assignments, reflection, and online work.

What independent learning skills are required to complete a course?

• As programmes are delivered through distance learning, students must be capable of studying on their own initiative.
• Students will require the ability to plan and manage their own individual study schedule, proactively engage with course resources and complete and submit assessment work within the course duration allowed.

What Language Skills do I need to successfully complete a course?

• Learners must be fluent in English.
• Specific language requirements are provided on the individual course pages.

What resources are required to participate?

• A basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course.
• Learners will require access to a word processing package to type assessment work.

What specific supports are available to learners?

• Personalised Tutor support.
• Detailed assessment briefs and written feedback on all assessments are provided.
• 24×7 access to CMIT eLearning for the duration of the course. This includes a comprehensive Course Manual which covers the entire syllabus.
• The course manual is designed for printing and can be read using a screen-reader for those with sight difficulties.
• You will also be able to upload assessments online and receive online feedback.
• You can use the eLearning system from any computer that has internet access.
• Reasonable Accommodation policy in place to support learners with additional needs.

What kind of PC, software and internet access do I need?

• A PC with Windows 10 or later or a Mac with OSX 10.5 or later.
• An internet connection with a speed of at least 10mbps.
• The latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, set to accept cookies and pop-ups.
• Adobe Reader to view content.
• Word processing software, such as MS Word or Google Docs.
• Some courses include video, therefore your computer must be capable of playing video and sound.
